Volunteers Wanted
Estimated reading time 2 minutes
Run Barns Green is constantly looking at new ways to attract more runners by developing new shorter-distance races, particularly for those who don’t feel they are quite ready to take on a half marathon! The half marathon began in 1982 and in 2016 we introduced a 10K race. Last year we added the Jennings Junior Jog for 4-11 year olds and this year we are for the first time, staging a new 5K race. More details of the exciting new race route for the 5K will be announced soon.
The addition of another race increases the need for more race marshals and more helpers for the car parks. We desperately need more volunteers on race day – Sunday 24th September – to help us. It’s great fun, you operate in pairs and you will be allocated a position on one of the race routes. Your job is to cheer the runners on and report on your walkie-talkie details of race leaders and general news on the races as well as updating race control on any injuries or incidents. In the event of a runner getting injured or becoming ill, we can then get our medical teams to them to help them recover quickly.
We have a full briefing for all marshals a few days before race day in the Village Hall. If you are new to the village, or even if you are not, it's a great way to meet people and to get involved in this wonderful village event.
