Meet The Committee
Nigel Currie
I have been on the Run Barns Green Committee for over fifteen years and I am delighted to be taking over from Vernon as Chairman. My primary role is now to look after our wonderful committee who work tirelessly throughout the year to make everything on race day go as smoothly as possible. I still have responsibility for writing all the press releases and communications for the event. As Chairman, I can now delegate responsibilities and the first bit of delegation I did was to get some younger helpers involved to help put up all the race signage along the race routes. This means that I no longer have to get up at 5 am on race day!
Richard Oram
Having moved to Barns Green, I was looking for something local to get involved with and there’s nothing better than Run Barns Green for showing how a small village community comes together. As Chairman and Race Secretary I take some of my day to day skills as a Strategy Director at a global IT company and put them to good use in organising all the accreditation licences, road closures applications, social media, event operation and year round planning.

I am a running fanatic!! I just love it and how it makes me feel and it has helped me over the years in my journey of life….I’m a Level 3 PT, a Zumba Instructor and I am part of the Parkrun Core team at Brighton & Hove. I run with Burgess Hill Runners and Runbrighton. I have been in the fitness industry since 2010 and before that I was in the Media industry – currently working as a Sales Administrator but I am still running my PT business. I have run many 5ks, 10ks, Half Marathons, 6 Marathons (could be more!) and two Ultras. Barns Green Half was my first ever Half in 2014, and loved it.
Roy Tingley
With 40 years’ experience in the construction industry and the last 20 years as a railway engineer, an industry where Health and Safety is paramount. It is this skill set which is apparently is the right credentials to undertake my role on the Run Barns Green Committee. If you haven’t guessed by now, I have the responsibility for getting everyone “HOME SAFELY’, yes, Health and Safety. I look at all potential risks and take measures to reduce the risk to an acceptable level; production of a comprehensive race manual, liaison with medical provision and the emergency planning officer. I also coordinate all those lovely marshals that look out for you.
Mark Jennings
I’ve been involved in the Half Marathon ever since running in the very first race back in 1982. A few decades later I was asked to join the Committee. 17 years on I can now normally be found in the Race Control cabin communicating with all our race marshals, committee members and parking stewards making sure the event is running as smoothly and safely as possible. It’s always a very busy day but also a very enjoyable one knowing that so much money is being raised for charity and local organisations. Have a great race!
Dan Stockwell
I’ve been involved with Run Barns Green since I was engaged to work on the rebrand in 2020. As well as the build and ongoing maintenance of the website, I help on the media side of things including graphic design and advertising. On race days, you’ll see me at the start and finish lines, as well as capturing the day around the green.

I’m a Finance project manager for a FTSE250 company, a keen sportsperson, and community minded – which means the Run Barns Green races are perfect for me to apply myself to benefit local charities and our very active village groups. The event is a massive undertaking, with huge amounts of physical work over the race weekend in particular – but the committee share a balance of application and amusement (it’s a bit like the ‘Vicar of Dibley’), which makes our efforts fun and rewarding, and always creates a strong feeling of pride.

I am responsible for all the road signage; building and painting over 100 signs for the road closures, mile markers, information and car parking ensuring all are in place before the event and then on the morning of the race. My Dad was a founder member of the committee and I helped him put up the start/end gantry. Its a bit of a family thing as I also ran the first and in the second year ran with my Dad and brother. It’s great to be part of such an important event and helps make a difference to many village clubs and groups that we are able to support through the fund raising.
Phil Ryley
My role on the committee is as part of the equipment team. We are responsible for many aspects of the equipment, vehicles and signage required for holding the marathon. On the event weekend, I am involved with setting up the start/finish area, the Winners stage, distribution of the various road closure signs, plus many other jobs that crop up. In particular, on the day, I am the driver of the 1/2 Marathon lead car. I have helped with the marathon for many years but have only been on the committee for the last four.
