The prestigious Half Marathon List http://www.halfmarathonlist.co.uk/top/toptenuk.php has produced its annual top ten races for 2024 and Run Barns Green’s Half Marathon has come 4th in the whole of the UK, a truly fantastic achievement for an event run entirely by volunteers. It rated higher than several much bigger and better financed events such as the Great North Run which came 6th.

Races were chosen according to the experience and feedback from friends, colleagues and fellow runners. The citation which accompanied the publishing of the top ten said of the Run Barns Green race, “It is one of the best-loved half marathons and 10K events in Sussex and justifiably can make bold claims with awards from Racecheck and BARR (British Association of Road Races), it's easy to see why this race has become a favourite for many."

There are now only a few weeks to go now until Run Barns Green 2024 which is located just 3 miles from Horsham.  This year’s event takes place on Sunday 29th September and will be made up of 4 races giving runners of all ages and abilities a chance to take part and get their hands on a bronze, silver or even gold medal.

As well as the Half Marathon race, now in its 42nd year, there will be a 10k race and a 5K race for those runners who do not want to take on the longer race distance. Also, the Jennings Junior Jog for 4-11 year olds, will take place at 12.30pm on race day.

Chairman of Run Barns Green, Richard Oram commented, “This is a genuinely terrific honour for Run Barns Green.  To be voted the 4th best half marathon in the whole country is unbelievable.  Most of the other events in the top 10 are organised by professional organisations so it is a great testimony to the village and all the people who give up their time to support the event. Everyone who helps out in whatever capacity should be very proud indeed”.

Run Barns Green is organised entirely by volunteers and any surplus funds are given to the various societies, organisations and sports clubs who help out with car parking, marshalling, manning water stations, handing out medals, catering and various other roles.

The three adult races follow routes on closed roads through the lanes of Barns Green, Itchingfield, Dragons Green, and through the magnificent grounds of Christ’s Hospital School taking in some of the most scenic countryside in West Sussex.

Once again in 2024 the official race charity will be St Catherine’s Hospice who do such wonderful work in the local area and who Run Barns Green are delighted to be able to support.

For all runners taking part there is plenty of free parking and a warm up exercise routine prior to all the races including the Jennings Junior Jog.  For the adult races there is chip timing for each runner as well as pacemakers running who will help runners to achieve their target finish time. All finishers in the four races will receive a medal as a momento of their achievement with gold, silver and bronze medals up for grabs in the adult races.
