An Update from The Race Director
Estimated reading time 3 minutes
It’s not long to go now until Run Barns Green 2021. After the disappointment of having to cancel last year’s races and the general restrictions and impositions caused by the pandemic, it will such a relief for us all to get back to doing the sorts of activities that we have come to love and rely on. The Run Barns Green Committee have been working tirelessly to get our event up and running again. Of course, there may well have to be some changes to the way things are normally done but I think that we have all become used to things not being quite as they were. One of the first things to have changed is our name. We are now Run Barns Green, a name which incorporates our two races, the Half Marathon and 10k and will soon include a kids race which we were hoping to launch this year but because of the pandemic this will now launch on our 40th anniversary year in 2022.
On race day there may well be some other slight changes to the way things are normally done. For example, at our finishing areas we are currently working on different and Covid-safe ways of removing the chip timing tags from runners’ shoes and also with regard to distributing the gold, silver and bronze medals to all our race finishers.
We are constantly monitoring the latest government advice as well as taking note of guidance from Sport England and the various running governing bodies with regard to mass participation events. This is to make sure that we comply with all the appropriate regulations and that we are doing everything possible to keep all our runners, officials and spectators as safe as possible.
On the green itself, we are uncertain at this time what entertainment will be allowed but we will do everything possible to make 26th September a rewarding and fun day out for everyone. We are confident that the local facilities will be operating as normal. These include the Queen’s Head pub for fine ales and food, Barns Green Village Store for your Sunday papers and sundries and Sumners Pond Camping and Fishery for refreshments and lunches as well as Barns Green Sports and Social Club on the Village Green where drinks can be purchased.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming all runners for both the half marathon and the 10k races to Run Barns Green on Sunday 26th September. Good luck with your training
