13.1 Tips for Running your Best Barns Green Half Marathon
Estimated reading time 2 minutes
- Have a good breakfast day of the race..porridge, toast and jam, and fruit are all good choices!
- Get involved in the pre-race warm-up! It’ll help prepare your body for the task ahead.
- Run your own race pace – it’s tempting to get caught up after the gun goes off and sprint off. Rein in the pace and save the sprint for the last 0.1 mile.
- Run in the kit you’ve trained in – don’t try anything new on race day.
- Remember to thank the marshals and volunteers on your way around.
- Get ready with your race face for the photographers en route.
- Take the race as it comes... you may have a plan but be prepared to adapt if things aren’t going to plan
- Don’t be afraid to walk if you need to and take on board water at the water stops
- Get your friends and family to support you. The great thing about Barns Green is the route passes through the start/finish halfway around.
- When you start feeling tired... focus on the bling and victory at the finish!
- Have a change of clothes and some refreshments for when you finish.
- Resist the temptation to stop at the pubs en route for refreshments
- Have fun!
- Lastly – don’t forget to sign up for next year’s race!!
